September 2016 - New Product News: Doner Kebab Tubes
Have you tasted a delicious doner kebab from a local deli, or do you enjoy sinking your teeth into a tasty shawarma? If your mouth is watering at the mention of these savory dishes, the answer is probably yes. Part of what makes the meat so delicious in these popular menu items is the method that is used to cook them. The pre-seasoned meat is cut in the shape of an inverted cone and cooked very slowly on a vertical rotisserie. This slow cooking process with very gradual rotation brings out complex flavors in the meat and accounts for the juicy tenderness you taste when you bite into a shawarma or doner kebab.
The vertical rotisserie that the meat is cooked on is fitted with a tube that can be skewered through the center of the meat to hold it in place during cooking. The catch is that this tube can’t just be made of any ordinary material. The tube must be food-safe both inside and outside to keep out juices from the meat that could lead to contamination. The tube also needs to be able to withstand the extreme temperatures that the meat will be exposed to. These are difficult characteristics to find in a tube, but they’re mandatory due to food safety standards and practical industry needs. But guess what? Here at Paper Tubes & Sales Manufacturing, we’ve developed an innovative new product that does all of these things! We initially created this product because a customer brought this particular application to our attention and then asked us to engineer a solution. We then took the opportunity to partner with them and successfully created something that met their needs, reduced their costs, and - incidentally - the needs of an entire industry.
So how do we do it? Well, we manufacture the tube using food safe foil. Unlike the metal tubes that most rotisserie operators and manufacturers use, our foil tubes are less costly than the typical metal rods used by most in the industry. In the short time since we’ve developed this product, we’ve had several inquires about it from manufacturers here in the US who can’t find anything like it anywhere else! This is yet another example of our ability to work with customers and entire industries to find affordable solutions.
